As we go through hurricane season and prepare for each storm, we plan for power outages for a few days – a week at most. Power is something we typically take for granted and something we assume that everyone has access to.
But there are nearly 2 million people around the world who live without electricity on a daily basis. There are areas that have been struck by a natural disaster so devastating that there is no sign of light to come.
And because of these nearly 2 million people, two young entrepreneurs came up with the idea of inflatable solar lights that could be easily distributed in times of emergency. Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta developed and distributed their first lights during the Haiti earthquake in 2010. From this, LuminAID was born. Since then, this company has been featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, been invested in by Mark Cuban, and has gained a massive following. They now partner with organizations all over the world and have delivered more than 10,000 lights to areas that need it the most. Their products are also great for camping and other outdoor adventures and are the perfect size to store in emergency and first aid kits.
We’re now working with LuminAID to help our customers prepare for hurricane season – and any type of storm or natural disaster — by giving them a LuminAID inflatable solar light when they sign up for our Prepare & Protect 12 electricity plan. And for every lantern we give a new customer, we’ll be donating another one on their behalf to one of LuminAID’s charitable partners.
