The city of Chicago is in a power struggle.
Residents who took part in Chicago’s electricity aggregation program with Integrys Energy (now Constellation Energy) are now tasked with a tough decision: who will provide them with electricity for their homes and businesses.
When the city ended the contract a few months ago, deciding that consumers could probably get a better electricity rate on their own rather than through the program, it left about 700,000 residents who participated in the program wondering what to do next.
Thankfully, the city and Constellation worked out an arrangement through the summer months to provide those residents with a really good deal, while giving residents time to do their homework and make some decisions.
The summer is almost over and for those residents who haven’t chosen an electricity provider, what now?
Thankfully, there’s still time to choose. And for those who do nothing, they’ll automatically transfer to ComEd when their meter is read in August and be placed on the “Price to Compare” rate and be billed a monthly customer charge and any other fees.
But choosing your provider shouldn’t be a struggle. We’ve made it easy for Chicago residents to take control of their power. We’ve consolidated a lot of information in one spot so you can get the information you need, like:
