If you’ve lived in Texas for a few years now, you know going back to school has a silver lining: the annual sales tax holiday.
Shoppers won’t have to pay sales tax on most clothing and footwear priced less than $100 (full list of tax-exempt items here). The tax holiday starts today, August 19, and runs through midnight Sunday, August 21. Many retailers are extending their hours to accommodate the expected increase in shoppers. So get out there and save!
Here are a few tips to get the most out of it:
Make a list; stick to it. Categorize items by wants and needs. Don’t waiver.
Get the basics. Concentrate on key items of clothing that can be mixed and matched, such as plain-colored T-shirts, which can be paired with a colorful scarf. Choose two or three favorite colors and pair with neutrals for a true mix-and-match wardrobe.
Stay organized. Keep all receipts in one place in your wallet or purse.
Look for deals. Search online for coupons and bring them with you.
