ERCOT Asks Texas Residents to Conserve Power
With the Texas heatwave showing no signs of letting up, ERCOT is asking Texas electricity customers to conserve power to avoid rolling blackouts.
Officials are urging everyone to conserve power from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Residents are being asked to avoid using things like their dishwashers, laundry machines, or hair dryers during the peak time.
Because of the record-breaking heat on Saturday, ERCOT said it broke a new record for peak weekend usage. Officials expect to hit a new all-time high on Monday or Tuesday.
To help conserve power, ERCOT says residents should also set their air conditioning thermostats to 85 degrees and turn off all fans before they leave.
ERCOT is warning that if customers don’t conserve power, rolling blackouts are a possibility.
