This April, Spark Energy partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation and committed to plant a tree on behalf of every new customer that selected a green energy product during Earth Month. We are honored to announce that our customers helped us support the planting of 12,000 trees!
The trees committed during our Earth month campaign will be donated to four significant reforestation and community rebuilding projects.
Lost Pines Forest Recovery, Texas With our headquarters in Houston, this ongoing campaign to replant trees that were lost in the devastating 2011 Bastrop wildfires is close to our heart and important to our employees. The Lost Pines Forest Recovery Campaign is an effort to restore the 32,400 acres of Lost Pines Forest that were lost during the wildfires.
Community Tree Recovery Campaign, New Jersey Trees in this project are planted in New Jersey communities that were devastated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The project’s goal is to work within the community to replenish the tree canopies that were destroyed in the natural disaster.
The Modoc Forest, California This Northern California forest is used as a field lab to teach sustainable forestry practices to resource management students. By providing a hands-on experience, students gain an in-depth understanding of sustainable forestry practices.
Au Sable and Lake Superior State Forest, Michigan The reforestation project in Michigan has the bold goal of planting one million Jack pine trees to improve the natural habitat of the endangered Kirtland’s warbler. This migratory songbird’s breeding habitat is almost exclusively confined to young, dense Jack pine stands in the area. Reforestation efforts here have increased the number of singing males from less than 200 to more than 1,900, bringing the species back from the brink of extinction.
We are honored to continue our ongoing partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. With the help of our customers, we’ve donated 27,000 trees to reforestation efforts in five states over the course of two years.
