To be eligible, both referring and referred customer must receive service in deregulated territory served by Spark Energy, L.L.C (“Spark”). Referred customer must enroll on a 12 month or longer plan utilizing the unique referral code from the referring customer. By enrolling in the Refer A Friend program, you authorize Spark to notify the referring customer of your enrollment. Referred Customer may elect to not receive further e-mails from Spark. Newly enrolling referred customers are limited to one $25 bill credit or gift card per service address enrolled. $25 credit applied to Spark bill for electricity used; may not be transferred, assigned or redeemed for cash. Limit one referring customer per new enrollment (determined by email link followed). Offer not available to renewing customers (new enrollments only).

Rate Reduction Program(Lite Up)

Per PUC requirements, customers who qualify for a Rate Reduction Program can pay any deposit in excess of $50 in two equal installments after providing sufficient information to demonstrate their eligibility. Rate Reduction Program – PUC 25.454
The Lite-Up Texas program helps qualified low-income individuals reduce their monthly cost of electric service.  As of August 2016, funds for this program have been exhausted. However, customers who still qualify for the Rate Reduction program can pay any deposit that exceeds $50 in two equal installments.  The first installment payment is due no sooner than 10 days, with the second installment due no sooner than 40 days, from the date of this deposit requirement notification. You may qualify as a low-income customer if you have a household income that is not more than 125% of the federal poverty guidelines, or if you receive food stamps or medical assistance (Medicaid) from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission  If you think you may qualify for the Rate Reduction Program based on your annual household income (see chart below), please call us at 888-772-7566.

Alternative Methods of Qualification:
Per PUC requirements, Spark also provides alternative methods of qualifying with satisfactory credit in lieu of a deposit:
  • 65 years of age or older (and not currently delinquent on any electric account)
  • Victim of family violence
  • Medically Indigent
  • Letter of Credit from previous electric provider
    Please view the Alternative Methods of Qualification link with the additional conditions that will be required to determine if you qualify for any of the alternative methods. After viewing the additional conditions required for each alternative method of qualification with satisfactory credit, if you feel you qualify for an account with Spark Energy using one of those methods, please call 1.877.547.7275.
    Deposits are held for a period of 12 months (provided that no late payments have been made during that time). The deposit will accrue interest at a rate set by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, which is established in December of each year for the upcoming year. At the end of 12 months, as long as no late payments have been made, you will be eligible to have your deposit with applicable interest credited to your account. Should you cease to be a customer of Spark Energy, your deposit will be applied to any outstanding balances on your account and the difference will be returned to you. If the deposit is refunded within 30 days of payment, no interest will be applied.
    You have the right to obtain services from other certified retail providers. You may obtain information about providers who service your area by calling the Power to Choose Information number toll-free at 1-866-797-4839 or by accessing their website at www.powertochoose.org
    Section 25.471-c of the Customer Protection Rules prohibits a Retail Electric Provider from unduly refusing service to any customer because of race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, marital status, lawful source of income, disability, family status, or location of customer in an economically distressed geographic area.
