Spark Energy to Offer Power and Choice to Philadelphia Area
Multi-State Provider of Low-Cost Electric Service Offers Significant Long-Term Savings to PECO Utility Customers

December 8, 2010 (Philadelphia, PA) — Spark Energy, an independent multi-state certified retail energy and natural gas supplier, today announced that it has entered the Philadelphia market ahead of the elimination of rate caps on January 1, 2011. The move will empower homes and businesses in Southeastern Pennsylvania to choose an energy company that offers lower rates than those offered by the current provider and lock those low rates in for 12 months.

Spark Energy offers residential customers in Southeastern Pennsylvania a fixed-rate plan for 12 months at a rate of 8.93 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) and a rate of 8.48 cents per kWh for small businesses. Both of these fixed rates represent a 10 percent savings off of PECO’s January 1, 2011 rates. Since the Spark Energy rate is locked in for a full year, customers will see their savings increase when PECO implements their planned rate increase scheduled for April 1 2011. Switching electric providers is completely free and there will be no interruption of service.
