Three-year donation helps power Johnson Family's dream
HOUSTON, (Oct. 5, 2010) — Spark Energy immediately agreed to participate when officials of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition asked if the independent electricity provider would join forces with the program to literally help build a dream for Eric and Elaine Johnson of Houston.
The popular ABC television reality show selected the deserving family for a new custom home, built by HHN Homes, and Spark Energy is providing electricity for three years for the 4,400 sq. ft. home. The Johnson's story will be featured on the Oct. 10 broadcast of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
"We believe in making a positive impact on the communities we serve and our donation to the Johnsons through Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is part of that commitment," said Keith Maxwell, president and CEO. "With five young daughters and a non profit organization they founded, Eric and Elaine Johnson have a lot of energy themselves. We are honored to help them with this donation."
Married 15 years with backgrounds as youth mentors, Eric and Elaine Johnson became licensed counselors in 2006 when they realized the African-American community was being overpowered by a seeming epidemic of family disintegration. The Johnsons began a marriage and family counseling non-profit called Optimum Lifestyle with the goal of strengthening marriages in fun, creative ways.
The Johnsons take inner-city families to the outdoors to give them a camp-like experience and teach them about teamwork and trust. Eric is passionate about African- American fathers stepping up to play a larger role in their children's lives. Their couples' seminars, which are provided to anyone in need for either no-charge or a nominal fee, have possibly saved hundreds of marriages and kept countless kids from growing up in single parent homes.
